Rockhampton

When we arrived in Rockhampton it felt like we had arrived back in Australia. The reason why is that the bush and the bird sounds and the surroundings started to feel different. The bush was drier and more prickly, you could hear Kookaburras and Magpies and you could sit by the rivers without being on the look out for crocodiles.

We stayed at the Water Ski Club in Rockhampton which was a really cheap but awesome place to stay beside the river. It was so quiet and we spent a lovely Sabbath going to church, catching up with old friends and then going to the Rockhampton Zoo.

At the Rockhampton Zoo we saw some chimpanzees and the zoo keeper gave us a really interesting talk all about them and where they had come from. One of the Chimpanzees had recently come from Israel in an effort to increase the breeding pool of the chimps and teach the chimps here about living together as a group.

We also saw a big monitor lizard, turtles and some crocs.

Rockhampton again seemed really big after being in the outback of Australia for so long. We were beginning to think that the adventure part of the trip had begun to come to an end. There were big cities and towns everywhere now and you didn’t have to travel through wilderness country to get from one town to another. We were embarking on a different stage of our journey. More social and urban now.
