Around Straya

Monkey Mia is exactly what its name points out – a place of rest. As soon as we arrived we felt like we were coming home. What a beautiful place! Of course, full of animals again. The kids went on regular night expeditions to the beach with Gerson and sometimes all of us together. The range of animals seen on these expeditions with our head lamps were sea snakes, dolphins, crabs, a very beautiful blue looking squid, lots of sea slugs, lots of yellow and orange crabs, pelicans, sting rays etc. It is just thriving with animal life. Of course the kids also caught fish with their nets. We always tried to put the fish back in the water quite quickly, however Priscilla was always very excited to find and catch a fish and would very lovingly spend a lot of time with it, holding them very tight of course. It always looked very limp and lifeless when it was put back into the water.
Another highlight at Monkey Mia was the family of emus that came in to the camp. Very confident and bossy little animals. We tried to steer clear of them but saw them helping themselves to a campers back of the car and trying to bully a man with a dog.
We liked to go to look at the fish at night time. We saw some amazing animals. We took some pictures but for some reason they saved in a different format and we could not upload them here. We saw a really awesome blue ringed squid.
