Mary Kathleen

Mary Kathleen was such an interesting spot to look at. It used to be a thriving mining town in the early 1900’s with a uranium mine next to it. We saw videos of the town and what it used to be in the museum.

Now there is only a ghost town left and people can free park their caravans there on some of the foundations of the buildings.

We went to see the old mine. There was a really beautiful lake at the bottom of the mine hole which was a beautiful blue colour. We learned that Uranium is a naturally occurring rock that has its own radiation property and the lake in the mine is radioactive and so we can’t swim in it. There were big signs with skull and cross bones near it. The rocks on the mine rock face were really pretty.
