Around Straya
We had a very awesome time at Kalbarri. Kalbarri is a small little town with a beautiful quiet beach on its doorstep, sheltered by a cove and beyond which is one of the most boiling, rough and full oceans. It always seems to look like its about to boil over and take over the bay. Fortunately that does not happen!
We hired some canoes on the beach and were able to have a paddle around. This gave the kids some new confidence in the water and some good paddling skills.
Every morning in Kalbarri there is pelican feeding. We got to see the volunteers give the fish to the pelicans and they allowed all the kids to feed the pelicans too. We learned that when a pelican is ready to bread their beaks go pink.
The Gorges around Kalbarri are really spectacular! We went first to the Natures SkyWalk, then to Natures Window and we then did the River Bed hike at the Z Bend River Trail. This was quite a challenging walk with clambering over slippery and smooth rocks and climbing down ladders. We met some rangers who made us feel safe as we had attempted the trail just before sunset. They knew we were out and about so if it got dark they could come looking for us.
While we were hiking Natures Window my bank card fell out of my bag. I was very thankful that some kind person found it and handed it in to the gate keeper. It was eventually sent up to Port Hedland by post for me to pick up there. It was very kind of them.
