Hughenden

Hughenden is the next town along the Flinders Highway before we headed North up towards Cooktown. It was a hot and dry place, similar to Richmond and also had a Dinosaur feature in the town.

We only stayed one night in Hughenden, visited the Library and also visited a tree just near where we were staying that was the tree the search party for Burke and Wills had blazed. Burke and Wills had set out to find a passage way to the top of Australia and had unfortunately run into tragedy. Two search parties were sent to find them and both of them blazed the same tree as they were searching. The tree is very old but you can still see the old blaze marks on the tree. It has a gate around it to prevent people from vandalising it.
