Around Straya
Etty Bay was recommended by someone from Cairns church as a place to see Cassowaries. Since this was definitely on our tick list we headed there for dinner one evening.
We were only there for about the minutes, eating our fruit salad an yoghurt before we saw a cassowary and its chick coming out of the rainforest onto the beach! It was a truly exciting moment. We quickly ran towards the area as did lots of other beach goers, bearing in mind that they are very dangerous animals if they feel threatened. The little chick was very close to its parent and very cute. We followed it until it went around the bay.
What was amazing was that on the way back from the bay we had a cassowary cross the road in front of us. So it was two wild cassowaries in one day!
