Around Straya
After Cooktown we went straight back over the mountain and into the Daintree RainForest! A beautiful, wet and humid paradise with Ulysses Butterflies flying around, interesting bird sounds and lots of cassowary signs. We were very eager to see a cassowary in the wild, and while we were in the caravan park one came into the campground twice, however we were not there every time it happened. We were very disappointed!
We went straight to the ice cream place in the Daintree. We had been told about this place by someone in Broome so we were looking forward to it. They had all sorts of tropical fruit flavours. Some of our favourites were yellow sapote and mango. Once we ate our ice cream we spent the weekend right in the middle of the rainforest. We went for a really long two hour rainforest walk. We were drenched and pouring down with sweat the whole time. We were hoping to see some tropical rainforest animals like the tree kangaroo and some cassowaries but we only saw the Wampoo Dove which always made sounds through the forest. We did get to see some Cassowary poo though! lol. Plus we saw all sorts of different butterflies.
In the Daintree Rainforest Caravan Park there was a really awesome swing that could go really high. We had such fun on it!
We enjoyed the rainforest but we soon discovered that every rainforest walk was the same so we decided to go and see Cape Tribulation. This was named by Captain Cook as he was having quite a lot of difficulty with repairs to his ship etc. It was a beautiful beach. It looked like paradise, however you couldn’t swim there because of the crocodiles. The locals told us that sometimes the crocodiles come out of the water and chase the dogs on the beach. It made us a little anxious.
Papa wanted to find some coconuts but all the coconuts we saw were always too high for us to reach. He was very disappointed.
We had a nice time there though. The weather was warm and it was a lovely walk on the beach.
